Its that time again, time for me to post something and reach out to you through my keyboard and into your reading gland. All our tracks are now available for full preview on Last.fm due to them changing their policies and i’ve also made Like Stars available as a free download (due to us changing our policies) so get over there and download our asses onto your ipod/iphone/icontemporary-portable-music-device and take us with you on your train/bus journeys! Don’t forget, we are playing our comeback gig this Friday coming (4th June) and we’re planning to rock like rabid spastics and turn you all into a bunch of twitching, dribbly mongs with our life affirming chops, see www.heatvslight.co.uk for details. If you were offended by the last sentence at all then please report us to the relevant authorities. Dream of great things always. x

Posted in Uncategorized with tags Gig Heat vs Light show performance live on May 3, 2010 by heatvslightWe’re finally putting on our gigging shoes and going out er… gigging again! Its going to be very exciting with a new set, new drummer, new beards and for Sean its going to be on the night of a brand new age as its his birthday, so if you don’t want to come down for the ravishing new tunes then at least come down to give Sean a dead arm or something (after we’ve played or you may seriously affect his all important special guitar powers). The big day is Friday 4th June and its at The Sanctuary in Burnley, Lancashire X

Posted in Uncategorized with tags ghost photo samlesbury hall heat vs light on March 5, 2010 by heatvslightLast week, me and a good friend of mine spent the night at Samlesbury Hall to celebrate the passing of his youth, get scared out of our wits and hopefully return with some proof of the other side. Now, Samlesbury Hall is apparently to spirits what Amsterdam is to prostitutes so we were very excited about the prospect. Although we didn’t actually see anything we still had a very interesting night contacting witches and the like on the old glass and relentlessly asking invisible beings to knock on tables and walls. What we did get were some interesting photographs as you can see, check out the spooky, spectral dog in this image! This will hopefully be the first of many a visit to supposedly haunted locations and i’ll keep you posted if anything interesting happens, or i start channeling spirits and talking like a knob like him off the telly. Keep it spooky people and remember, if there are spirits living amongst us then they can definitely see you masturbating so don’t do it cause it might be your uncle or summat.

Waiter… There’s a Haggis in my soup
Posted in Uncategorized on August 31, 2009 by heatvslightHi all, this is the first post on the new Heat vs. Light blog! I’ve uploaded all the old stuff from the myspace blog too if you want to have a read, it goes back quite a way but there are some humorous bits and some bits which are now completely irrelevant! I’ve just spent the last few days on “holiday” in Scotland where its rained constantly and i’ve found myself being over polite to everybody because i probably still feel a bit guilty for all that stuff that happened in Mel Gibson’s Braveheart. I have to say i’ve felt about as welcome as i usually do when i visit Wales and even went as far as suspecting i’d been given some dodgy meat in a steak and ale pie at a pub on purpose! See you all soon, where i expect all the Haggis and rain and Whiskey will make me look at least a bit more Scottish… either that or just wrinkly, pissed and fat.

13 July 2009 / White Label / 3 Trk CD

Heat Vs Light owe me £1.08 after they failed to put any adequate postage on their MM bound package. Was the early morning trip to the Post Office worth it ? In terms of presentation and packaging it deserves the effort, purely because this quartet have themselves put in a jolly decent amount of graft, in producing this soulful slice of modern, reflective indie. Some bright spark has already inserted the word “Elbow..” into their quotes but that’s a bit of daft thing to do, when Elbow create such unique patterns of their own – actually that bright spark was MM’s very own Mr Ecostos, himself an huge Elbow fan…oops. No, heat Vs. Light have a great band name and their searching, drawn out ballads are entertaining, not least for the drizzle of jangle and the purposeful crescendos. Whilst “The Air Tastes Of Strange Things” is an epic struggle of tempo over forceful atmospherics, the closing crash swings them into prog-rock territory with aplomb. This is entertaining and often exciting material, that seems to have grown into something potentially wonderful and personally I love the way that this EP is going to demand repeated listens, as the layout of the instruments is given an equal importance to JP Keenan’s attractive vocal style. Since 2005’s “Haunted Tapes” there’s been a slight line up change and a move into a self-admitted period of post-rock admiration. It works.

Manchestaaah… yeeaaahh… yeah?!
Posted in Uncategorized on June 24, 2009 by heatvslightHello peoples of the world, we have a gig coming up on the 8th August in Manchester at Jabez Clegg to be precise. Now, this is our first proper gig in Manchester and in case any of you didn’t know, the majority of venues in Manchester run what’s called a ‘pay to play’ policy which basically means we have to sell a certain amount of tickets in order to get the gig! If nobody turns up to see us, its not like they’ll turn us away at the door or stop us performing but they won’t book us again so we really need your support.
If you’ve ever been to see us in one of our local venues and thought ‘that was pretty good’ then i guarantee seeing us in a proper venue with lights, a decent PA system and a proper sound guy is gonna blow the pants off that performance. So if you really want to support one of your friendly neighbourhood alt.rock bands and give us a fighting chance at breaking into our beloved local city then please come along and get some mates in on the act, its a Saturday night and Manchester’s just a good night out anyway!!!
We were thinking of putting on a coach for the gig but we’re not sure of prices yet, so i’ll keep you posted, if you think it would be a good idea, or you know somebody that has a coach (?! clutching at straws!!) then please get in touch.
Cheers

The Temptations of Fagland.
Posted in Uncategorized on June 22, 2009 by heatvslightHi all, thanks to everybody that came down to the Sparrowhawk on Friday night it was a great night for Burnley music and really made us want to start a regular night somewhere, we had some lovely music and some impressive spoken word. Although it did make me realise the effect the smoking ban has had on the live music scene!! Given the choice of great live music or lung busting fag chonging, 8 out of 10 cats would prefer the chonging (mental note, book all future gigs in rooms that don’t have great big inviting doors to Fagland)!!
We’ll be playing again next month with the mighty Metonia and we hope its gonna be a bit of regular thing cause they’re great lads and have some mean chops! Next months gig is at The Sanctuary on Saturday July 18th and is gonna be awesome, so get your non smoking asses down there and show us some love.
